Prior to Water Works' intervention, the poor quality of water in Mtomondo meant that many people suffered from diarrhea and in the previous rainy season eight people died from cholera.

To change the situation in Mtomondo we trained the community how to install and maintain the Abakus pump. The community members were extremely capable of building the pump and enthusiastically completed the project without difficulty.
